I have been working with Mary Wanless, founder of the Ride With Your Mind system, since the mid 90’s. This science based methodology helped me understand how MY body worked. I could then begin to make the changes I needed in order to truly ride my horses using my seat and not my hands. My horses are much happier and I now can match my personal riding experience to the explanations in the ‘books.’

I often use video to give student feedback, especially in the early days of our lessons together. I find this helps to clarify language and promote better understanding between us.

“I started taking lessons with Miki after a 25 year absence from riding. To say I was out of shape and out of practice would be an understatement! Miki’s balanced seat riding instruction has been a revelation. Although I rode seriously as a child, I did not know the mechanics of how and why things worked and the theories behind rider positioning. Miki’s methods have helped me realize how my body impacts my horse.”

A bit of history: I grew up riding horses and participating in both 4H and Pony Club. In 1984 I received my Horsemaster certificate from Potomac Horse Center in Potomac, Maryland and continued to work for them as a riding instructor and assistant barn manager (1984-86.) I was then hired as the Director of the Equestrian Program at Butler School in Darnestown, Maryland (1987 – 2000.) From there I had my own farm and worked as a freelance instructor and dressage judge while also working as a bookkeeper and office manager for several small businesses. During this time I continued to train and learn, adding various certificates to my resume.
